Bernice Cook

Miss Bernice Cook was the last to teach in the little Morgantown school. She was born in North Carolina. With Morgantown’s closing, in winter, 1963, Miss Cook continued at the new Northwestern Elementary School.

Biography

Miss Bernice Cook was the last to teach in the little Morgantown school. She was born in North Carolina. With Morgantown’s closing, in winter, 1963, Miss Cook continued at the new Northwestern Elementary School. Miss Cook initially boarded at the Brown home in Rosstown and in June 1964 she married Fauquier’s Melville Tibbs. They resided in Rectortown. Mrs. Tibbs continued teaching in Fauquier. Mrs. Tibbs passed away on April 29, 1987. A memorial service was held at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Rectortown. She was buried in Concord, North Carolina.



Plaques honoring her work in Fauquier are displayed at the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church in Morgantown, a fitting location to remember her work.
