Carrie Jackson (Shorts) Brooks enjoyed a long teaching career in Fauquier. Mrs. Brooks was born 1913 in
Fauquier County.

Biography

Her parents were David S. and Isabella Wanser Jackson. She was a graduate of Rosenwald High School and D.C. Teachers College. Per information from the Circuit Newspaper, she taught in Morgantown for the 1945-1946 school year. She lived in her family home in the Ashville community just a few miles from Morgantown. Mrs. Brooks also taught at #18 (1942-43) in Delaplane, and starting in 1964, at Northwestern Elementary School (today Claude Thompson Elementary School). She continued at Northwestern until she retired in March 1968. Mrs. Brooks passed away in February 1976, and is buried in the Mt. Morris Community Cemetery in Hume, Va. Her descendants are many and include nieces, nephews, and cousins.
