Biography

Raymond Lee Exum was born on July 9, 1930, in North Carolina. In 1958, in the City Directory, Mr. Exum was living in Goldsboro, North Carolina and his occupation is listed as teacher. He served as Morgantown’s teacher for only one term, 1959-60, and stayed at the home of Mrs. Minnie Smith. At this time there were five rather than seven grades taught in the little school. While in Morgantown, Mr. Exum was quite active in the community and participated in the Morgantown Church services. He had excellent arts & craft skills. He even made the Santa Claus suit that he wore during the Christmas activities. Like Mrs. Joyner, he organized a school choir, and the little group was invited to sing at Mt. Nebo. Morgantown School had an active Parent Teachers Association throughout its history.



The classes presented Christmas programs and end of the year school closing exercise. The children received certificates for their accomplishments. Mr. Exum passed away on August 14, 1985, in Goldsboro, Wayne, North Carolina.
